My Favorite Albums

Here is a list of my favorite albums in rock/pop/jazz/reggae etc. They are not in any specific order, just listing as I think of them. However, I would say Love's Forever Changes is my favorite album of all time.

#1 Love-Forever Changes (Elektra EKS-74013) 1967

Los Angeles group Love's eerie third album is probably my favorite long player of all time. There is not a wasted note on the whole album. It seemed to predict the demise of the 60's psychedelic dream while it was in full bloom.

#2 The Byrds-The Notorious Byrd Brothers (Columbia CS-9575) 1968

The Byrds post-Monterey masterpiece was recorded while David Crosby was still in the group and he played a large part in the album's artistic success. Notorious Byrd Brothers was probably the first ever psychedelic-country album. The is a certain creepiness about the album, it sounded like it was recorded at Barker Ranch (if you get my drift!) A gorgeous non-album David Crosby written single called Ladyfriend preceded the album.

#3 The Teardrop Expoldes-Kilimanjaro (Mercury)

Kilimanjaro was the dazzling 1980 debut album by Liverpool group The Teardrop Explodes. The music on the album is a driving, colorful mix of Soft Parade-era Doors, Love, Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd played with the urgency of The Jam or Wire. Almost every track on the album was a potential hit single. What really made the musical unique was the group's radical, upfront use of brass. The USA version of the album did not include Second Head and Bouncing Babies but did include the great non-UK song Suffocate and an early version of the group's 1981 hit single Reward.
